"Hedonutopia'nın kesinlikle harika bir grup olduğunu söyleyebiliriz!"

The Away Days'in 12.12.21 tarihli Zorlu PSM konserinde ön grup olarak sahneye çıkan, Danimarka kökenli Berlinli grubu biraz daha yakından tanıdık...

1.Ülkemize hoş geldiniz, acaba sizi tanımayan ve müziğinizi keşfetmek isteyen takipçilerimize kendinizden ve müziğinizden bahsedebilir misiniz? En çok hangi sanatçılardan ilham oluyorsunuz ve aynı zamanda müziğinizin türünü nasıl tanımlandırıyorsunuz?

Teşekkürler, bizim için bir zevkti! Biz, Sweet Tempest'tan Julian ve Luna'yız. Şu anda synth-pop ile uğraşmayı seviyoruz, ama aslında gündemimizde birçok farklı sound da var.

2.Daha önceki bir röportajınızda İngiltere’de büyüdüğünüzden bahsetmiştinız. Aynı zamanda da sizin Danimarkalı olduğunuzu biliyoruz ve ayrıca bildiğimiz üzere Berlin’de yaşadığınızı da anlıyoruz. Bu durum, müzik anlayışınıza nasıl yansıyor? Bu kültürel farklılıkları müziğinize nasıl yansıtıyorsunuz, kendinizi en çok hangi kültüre yakın hissediyorsunuz?

Evet doğru, bundan dolayı kendimi şanslı hissediyorum! İngiltere'de büyüdüğüm için, etkisinin bir şekilde müziğimde her zaman olacağını düşünüyorum ama adeta bir kural olarak, sesi projeden projeye değiştirmeyi seviyorum. Farklı ülkelere gitmek de bunun olmasına yardımcı oluyor. Bu arada, Türk müziğini dinlemek çok ilham vericiydi!

3. 2021 yılında Party in Panama ve Modern Justice isminde iki farklı tekli yayımladınız. Bu şarkıların yaratılış sürecini ve bu eserlerin size hissettirdiklerini öğrenebilir miyiz? Acaba Pandemi sürecinde mi bu eserleri kaleme aldınız yoksa tamamen doğaçlama mı gelişti? 

Bu iki parça, aslında bir üçlemenin parçası ve üçüncüsü de yakında çıkacak! Şarkılar, şu anda dünyadaki mevcut siyasi iklimin bir yansımasını anlatıyor. Birlikte karantinada olduğumuz için ise o kadar çok şarkı yazdık ki tam olarak ne zaman yazdığımızı ifade edebilmemiz neredeyse imkansız!

4. Kariyerinizin en önemli anlarından biri, Neon Demon filmin müziklerini yapmaktı diyebiliriz. Acaba bu sizin için nasıl bir deneyim oldu? Ve aynı zamanda da ileride daha farklı filmlerin müziklerini yaparken sizi görebilecek miyiz? Bunun dışında, sinema sanatı müziğinize nasıl ilham veriyor?

Gerçekten muhteşem bir deneyimdi. Aslında yönetmen (Nicolas Winding Refn), bizi konserde gördüğü için o şarkı filme seçildi. Konserden sonra yanımıza geldi ve parçayı istediğini söyledi, biz de okeyledik.

Biz de daha fazla film müziği yapmayı çok isteriz, Julian film müzikleri konusunda büyük bir “nerd” olduğundan, muhtemelen şarkılarımızda her zaman bir film müziği atmosferi olacak.

5. Hayranlarınızın en sevdiği şarkılardan biri, kesinlikle “Snow”. Bu şarkı gerçekten de Beach House şarkılarını ve tam bir dream-pop havasına sahip. Acaba bu eserin sizin kariyerinizdeki anlamı nedir? Sizin için özel bir yer var mı?

Şarkı, soğuk bir İskandinav kışında Luna'nın Kopenhag'ın güneyindeki küçük dairesinde yazıldı. Bizim için şarkı, gerçekten sadece hayal kurma ve içinizdeki çocuğu serbest bırakma ve hayal gücümüzü serbest bırakma hissi ile ilgiliydi. Şarkı, her zaman bizimle birlikte olacak.

6. Şimdi de biraz kariyerinizin gidişatı hakkında konuşalım. Daha önce birçok tekli yayımladınız ve aynı zamanda da iki tane EP çıkardınız, acaba kariyerinizin ilk stüdyo albümü ne zaman çıkacak? Eğer böyle bir albüm olursa, bu eserden beklentilerimiz ne olabilir?

Çok fazla bir şey söyleyemeyiz ama bir albüm olacağını kesinlikle söyleyebiliriz! Uzaktan çalışıyoruz ve bazı somut detayları öğrenir öğrenmez, muhtemelen bunu herkese haykıracağız, kesinlikle öğreneceksiniz!

7. The Away Days ile Zorlu PSM’de 12 Aralık 2021 tarihinde bir konser verdiniz. The Away Days ile birlikte vakit geçirmek nasıl bir deneyimdi? Daha önce hiç Türkiye’ye gelmiş miydiniz? Türkiye’yi nasıl buldunuz ve Türk dinleyicilerinize neler söylemek istersiniz?

İnanılmazdı. The Away Days'i birkaç yıldır tanıyoruz ve onlarla vakit geçirmeyi her zaman sevdik, bu yüzden şimdi onlarla beraber çalmak ise bizim için cidden büyük bir adımdı. 

Üstelik, İstanbul'da insanların bizi bu kadar iyi karşılamasından gerçekten çok etkilendik, kesinlikle harikaydı. Türk seyircisine ise bir şey söylememiz gerekirse: “Sizi tekrar görmek ve size yeniden çalmak için gerçekten sabırsızlanıyoruz!”

8. Daha önceden dinlediğiniz herhangi bir Türk sanatçı var mıydı? Türk müziği hakkında ne düşünüyorsunuz?

The Away Days’den Can, buraya geldiğimizde tamamen acemi olduğumuz için bizi bir sürü yerli müzikle tanıştıracak kadar kibardı. 

Aslında Türkçe müzikte hala öğrenecek çok şeyimiz var ama Hedonutopia'nın kesinlikle harika bir grup olduğunu söyleyebiliriz!

9. Listenary dergisi olarak mottomuz: “Songs to Discover Today.” Acaba takipçilerimize keşfetmeleri gereken 3 albüm önerebilir misiniz? 

Güzel slogan ve güzel soru! Bedouine'den “Bird Songs of a Killjoy”, Supergrass'tan “SUPERGRASS” ve son olarak ise Anomalie'den “Métropole” albümünü tavsiye ederiz!

English Version:

1. First of all, Welcome to Turkey! Could you tell us about yourself and your music to our followers who don't know you and want to discover your music? And also, which artists are you most in spired by and how do you define the genre of your music?

Thank you! It’s been an absolute pleasure. We are Julian and Luna from Sweet Tempest. We currently like to dabble in synth pop, but really, we’ve got a lot of different sounds on the agenda.

2. Mr. Julian, you mentioned in a previous interview that you grew up in England. We also know that you are Danish (with a famous mother J) and we also understand that you live in Berlin as we know. How does this reflect on your understanding of music? How do your eflect these cultural differences in your music, which culture do you feel closest to? 

Yes that’s correct, I’ve been fortunate enough to have been a bit all around! Seeing as I grew up in England, I think it’s influence will always be in my music somehow but as a rule, I like to keep changing the sound from project to project, going to different countries just helps that happen. It was, by the way, very inspiring to hear Turkish music!

3. In 2021, you released two different singles called “Party in Panama” and “Modern Justice”. Can we learn about the creation process of these songs and how these works make you feel? Did you write these works during the pandemic process or did they develop completely in a naturalway?

These two tracks are actually a part of a trilogy with the third one coming out soon! The songs are a reflection on the current political climate around the world at the moment, and in no small way what it’s like to see it all unfold at a distance, in the news, online etc. We definitely wrote on this project during the pandemic but given that we were in lockdown together, we wrote so many songs in that time it’s almost impossible to pinpoint exactly when!

4. We can say that one of the most important moments of your career was to compose the soundtrack for the Neon Demon movie. How was this experience for you? And at the same time, will we be able to see you doing music for different movies in the future? Apart from that, how does the art of cinema in spire your music?

It was amazing. Actually, it got selected for the film because the director saw us in concert. He approached us after the show and just clearly stated that he wanted the track, we “nice”, that that was that. We’d love to do more film music, with Julian being a big nerd for soundtracks, there’s probably always going to be an element of film music in the songs.

5. One of your fans' favorite songs is definitely "Snow". This song really has a Beach House -like dream- pop vibe. What is the meaning of this work in your career? Is there a special place for you?

Snow was written in Luna’s small apartment in south Copenhagen during (you guessed it!) the cold Scandinavian winter. For us it was really just about the feeling about dreaming away and letting your inner child out and letting your imagination go free. The song will always be close to us.

6. Now let's talk a little bit about the course of your career. You have released many singles before and also released two EPs, when will the first studio album of your career be released? If there is such an album, what can we expect from this piece?

We can’t say too much, but can definitely tell you that there will be an album! We’re working away and as soon as we know some solid details, we’ll probably be screaming about it to everyone, you will definitely know!

7. You gave a concert with The Away Days at Zorlu PSM. What was it likes pending time with The Away Days? Have you ever been to Turkey before? How did you feel to be in our country and what would you like to say to your Turkish audience?

Simply put, it was incredible. We’ve known The Away Days for a few years now and have always loved spending time with them, so now it was just a big step up to actually play with them. On top of that, we were just really moved moved by how well people received us in Istanbul, it was absolutely wonderful. If we were to say something to the Turkish audience, it would have to be “We really can’t wait to see and play for you again!”

8. Was there any Turkish artist you listened to before? What do you think about Turkish music?

Well, Can was kind enough to introduce us to a lot of music as we were total newbies when we arrived. We still have a lot to learn but can definitely say ‘Hedonutopia’ are totally fabulous!

9. Our motto as Listenary magazine is: “Songs to Discover Today.” Could you suggest 3 albums for our followers to discover?

Good motto and good question!  Well, let’s try and move across the entire spectrum and time: ‘Bird Songs of a Killjoy’ by Bedouine. ‘SUPERGRASS’ by, well, Supergrass. And finally, ‘Métropole’ by Anomalie!
